Richard Sprott LLB

Following his early education at Christchurch Boys High School, Richard graduated in law from the University of Canterbury in 1982 and was admitted to the Bar the same year.

He began his legal career in Christchurch before working for two years in the North Island. In 1985 Richard settled once again in Christchurch and has worked mainly from the Bishopdale office apart from a short period of time spent overseas.

Jane Watson BA, LLB

Jane grew up in Christchurch, attending Villa Maria College and completing her law degree at the University of Canterbury. She was admitted to the bar in 1985.

She has worked for a number of Christchurch law firms, but has been at Bishopdale Law since the beginning of 2005 and became a partner in February 2008.

Angela Dunbar LLB (Hons)

Angela also grew up in Christchurch. She attended Rangi Ruru Girls’ School and then completed her law degree at University of Canterbury. She was admitted to the Bar in Wellington in 1989.

Angela began practice working in Wellington for four years for a large commercial law firm, specialising in litigation. After an OE of 18 months, she came back to Christchurch where she has worked for three firms (being a partner in one for the past five years) initially specialising in civil litigation and disputes but then broadening into general private practice covering many areas of law.

Angela joined Richard and Jane in partnership at Bishopdale Law in September 2011. She is also a member of the NZLS Standards Committee for Canterbury/ Westland Branch.


Richard, Jane & Angela all enjoy working for a range of clients, developing long term relationships and providing legal experience and assistance in a variety of areas including property transactions (residential, commercial and relationship property), wills, estates, trusts, powers of attorney, residential care subsidy applications, disputes, company incorporations, partnership and shareholders agreements, setting up and administering charities. Richard is a Trustee of two charities and the firm has sponsored the Christchurch Marathon.
